WHAT WE LEARNED

Joan Miró was a great artist.  He was born 106 years ago and died in 1983.  He doesn't like to draw realistic things.  He likes to draw from his imagination.  He came from Spain.  He was a surrealist painter.  He often puts a ladder in his paintings to escape from his imagination or to get into his imagination.  Some of his drawings were called "drawing by chance."  He uses flat colors in his pictures.  His mom and dad did not want him to be an artist.

WHAT DO WE WANT TO KNOW?

  • Why does he want to escape from his imagination?
  • Does he use food in his imagination?
  • How did he learn to do art?
  • Did he have a special art teacher?
  • What was his studio like?
  • When was he born?
  • How old was he when he started?
  • How did he decide to be an artist?
  • Did he have other jobs?
  • Who were his favorite artists?
