Classroom Discipline

The intent of classroom discipline is to create a harmonious environment for all and to encourage feelings of success and responsibility.  Our classroom rules are to show respect, common sense, and courtesy in our actions to each other.

Conflict Resolution/Class Meetings: Through a series of five lessons, children are taught to "talk out" their problems.  Talk It Outs can occur at any time, but children are assisted with Talk It Outs at class meetins.  The goal is for children to learn how to Talk It Out on their own, without the assistance of an adult.

How to Talk It Out

1. Take time to cool off.
2. Talk and listen.
3. Think of ways to solve the problem.
4. Choose the idea you like best!

Regular school attendance is important because academic skills are presented in sequence and most of what goes on in school cannot be made up at home.   The following are general guidelines for attendance.

Tardies: School starts promptly at 8:25.  Students should arrive a little early, so that they will be settled in by that time.  Tardies will be recorded on our roll sheets.

Absences: If your child is going to be absent from school, please phone the office in the morning at 322-5956.  Students should remain home when genuinely ill, but missing school for less urgent matters is not in their best interest.  Try to schedule doctor and dental appointments after school and trips so that they coincide with school holidays or staff development days.
